GMB ‘Daniel Dennis Health & Safety Award’ To Swindon Resident At GMB Annual Congress In Plymouth
Angus Groat is the GMB Workplace Organiser at Total Security Motorola in Sutton
Swindon resident Angus Groat was today awarded the GMB Daniel Dennis award for Health & Safety at GMB Congress in Plymouth in recognition of his outstanding Health & Safety work for the Union.
Angus was up against stiff competition from GMB Health & Safety Representatives from all over the UK who had also made their workplaces safer for their work colleagues. Angus negotiated for site improvements which included the safe removal of asbestos. He also established a safe traffic system for pedestrians and traffic and the introduction of barriers. He re-established electrical portable appliance testing for the first time since 1997 and introduced welfare facilities for the staff. He arranged a general clean up of site, including the removal of sewage.
Richard Ascough, GMB Regional Secretary said, “I would like to thank Angus for all his work looking after the day to day welfare of GMB members at his G4S site.
Angus is one of the best Workplace Organisers that GMB members are privileged to have. He helps to grow the Union too by identifying new workplace Organisers for his site.
He has also played a key role in the setting up of the National negotiating committee on H&S in G4S. He is one of five national reps on this committee. On a day to day basis Angus also continues to carry out inspections and get involved with Risk Assessments.
As part of his GMB Branch plan he has used health and safety improvements as a vehicle to grow GMB membership on site. All this ties in with the GMB national campaign.”
