Worcester Centre Opened

The great and good of the Private Security Industry were gathered in Worcester last Thursday to launch the Sørensen Centre, based at Security House in Barbourne.

The official opening, which was attended by the Centre’s benefactor Jørgen Philip-Sørensen the founder of Group 4, attracted an array of dignitaries including SIA Chairman, Baroness Henig of Lancaster, Andy Drane, Acting SIA Chief Executive, leading academics Professor Martin Gill and Dr. Mark Button, Councillor Ian Imray, The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Worcester and many leading security experts who were greeted at the prestigious event by security officers from The Corps in full formal dress uniform.

The Centre is dedicated to research and studies in security, policing, crime, terrorism and related subjects. It is an invaluable facility for those operating in the Security Business Sector including security companies, their employees, students, lecturers, researchers, authors and training providers and offers access to an extensive academic reference library housing books, research reports, British Standards, Acts of Parliament and trade magazines and journals. The study areas are fully equipped with computer facilities and state-of-the-art meeting rooms are available to hire.

Stefan Hay, Director of the Sørensen Centre said; “We are extremely grateful to Jørgen Philip-Sørensen for his immense generosity and for making this facility a reality and to the Founding Members for their contributions. The role and importance of the Security Business Sector expands daily as a result of both the growth of global terrorism and the general increase in serious and violent crime. We believe that the Sørensen Centre will play a pivotal role in educating the security professionals of the future and in doing so enable them to work to secure our communities and protect our democratic society, from those extremist individuals dedicated to undermining it.”
